If we were in the business of judging bands by their names- I could probably be talking about a sensitive, animal jumper wearing, ‘beardy band’ who may unintentionally look like a retroactive Flight of the Conchords parody act.
Luckily, life beyond HBO offers more rewarding experiences, so we press play and it’s instantly more serious. Close, sharp almost erotic lyrics stroking anatomical references; clean guitar and crispy drums lead into some familiar folky harmonies. More direct than Fleet Foxes; more threatening and in some ways, more realistic. The track feels more concrete and personal than most pop-folk. It struts with a sense of lustful masculinity that will help with the seemingly untold value of sex appeal for such a band. Chicks will dig them even if they’re uglier than Bret and Jermaine.
If the majority of similar bands paint sonic landscapes with a soft brush; Kurran and the Wolfnotes colour closely to the lines with felt tips.
